Environmental Design
Cluster ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN
Coordinator: MARIO LOSASSO Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II
SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND
Environmental Design represents a scientific field referring to models of knowledge, design approach and processes of habitat construction and modification, based on the goals of sustainable development and ecological transition in the interaction between environment, technology, housing and material culture.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
1. Environmental governance and innovative approaches to decision support and governance of processes and projects, measurable, traceable and monitorable
2. Living space design for the well-being and comfort of users and communities, with “one health” and restorative design approaches
3. Habitat design and preservation and enhancement of environmental, cultural, social resources
4. Regenerative design approaches and emergent dwelling processes; control of environmental impacts due to anthropogenic processes
5. Urban microdesign and environmental redevelopment of indoor and outdoor public and proximity spaces;
6. Resilience of the built environment to environmental, natural and anthropogenic hazards; strategies and actions for urban, building and open space climate adaptation and mitigation; decarbonization processes and green transition
7. Efficiency of projects and processes with reduction of waste and material and energy consumption; circular design, recycling and reclamation approaches; life cycle design and management
8. Ecosystem approach to material and energy resource use, with self-production and self-sufficiency practices (energy, food, etc.)
9. Green infrastructure, ecosystem services and nature based solutions
CLUSTER GOALS AND PERSPECTIVES
The Environmental Design Cluster focuses its scientific and operational objectives on highlighting the centrality of environmental issues for architectural design through appropriate approaches and the application of methodologies, strategies and design solutions through ecosystem-based actions for the protection, restoration and transformation of the natural and built environment at different scales.
